Ok, I didn't want this to get burried in the warning thread. So I've bent three sets of Mahogany sides. One caught fire, one scorched badly and not a third schorched badly again. 
I watched this like a hawk. Turned the heat off at 275 and it only got to 282. Any thoughts? I wonder if I screwed up the blankets somehow. |

blanket hot spot. this can happen when the internal coil starts going bad the resistance in the coil becomes less in the week areas therfore you get hot spots |

Wow Paul, sorry this happenned. Michael may be right, you may have lost those blankets. Plural? I still use only one on top, bulbs inside. Murphy is dogging your case. |

I know some of you love the 2 blanket method. I don't for this very reason. You get too much heat too fast. If you have a 4 or 5 watt per inch heater you don't need 2 blankets. Use a thermomter and run your bending at 275-325 and you will do fine. With 2 blankets your heat isn't very controllable as one blanket will produce more heat than another. Wood doesn't know how it got hot just that it got hot. ALso what was your time diration? If you have the unit heated more than 10 minutes you are using way too much time to bend. I turn on the machine let it hit 270 at the blanket and let it cook 1 minute once 270 is hit , then I bend and within 3 minutes I am finished. I will let the heat set for about 2-3 minutes once I am on the pattern and that is it. If I use alot of water I may cycle again to dry it off. John Hall |
